A tragic incident unfolded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as a multi-storey building collapsed, reportedly claiming lives and leaving many trapped under the rubble. 

The collapse occurred on Wednesday night during a heavy downpour, causing the building situated on Lagos Street in the bustling Garki village of Abuja to collapse.

Details surrounding the incident are still emerging, but sources indicate that an unspecified number of individuals have lost their lives due to the collapse.

37 individuals have being saved 

At least 37 individuals have been successfully rescued, according to reports, and they have been rushed to medical facilities for treatment. 

Unfortunately, some individuals remain trapped beneath the debris, and rescue operations have been affected by the continuing rain.

The two-storey building was used for both residential and commercial purposes.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the FCT Police Command, and other agencies are collaborating in the ongoing rescue efforts. 

Despite the challenges posed by the rain, rescuers are working diligently to locate and free those who are still trapped.

Another storey building collapses at Badagry

Meanwhile, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has reported a case of a storey building collapse at Sunny Filled, Flour Mills, Estate, Magbon, Badagry, Lagos.

In a statement posted on their social media page and signed by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye on Wednesday.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Badagry Station had rescued 5 (five) victims from the under-construction building while concerted efforts are ongoing to rescue remaining trapped victims.
