In a shocking turn of events, an alleged assassination attempt was made on the residence of Rivers factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The incident, which occurred late on Sunday, involved armed thugs and rogue security officers, according to reports.
Ehie, who had been removed as Assembly Leader during the move to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, later declared himself as the House Speaker, leading to a factional divide within the state’s political landscape.

They were properly and fully captured by CCTV footage
Details of the attack on Ehie’s residence are still emerging, but it has been reported that his security details successfully repelled the assailants.
A source, identified as Ken Uchendu, described the attack as an assassination attempt and alleged that it was led by the head of a security tactical unit in the state.
Furthermore, it has been claimed that the attempted assassination was captured by CCTV cameras and that the footage will be made public for confirmation and record purposes.
In response to the incident, a statement signed by Ehie’s legislative aide, Ken Uchendu, accused armed thugs and rogue police officers, allegedly led by specific senior police officers in the state, of carrying out the attack.
The statement also warned of potential public demonstrations and held certain individuals and security forces responsible for any breakdown of law and order in Rivers State.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state branch Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Bar. Adata Bio-Briggs has asserted that adultery is not a criminal offense.
She explained that infidelity is not a criminal offense however, the spouse can sue for it if he/she has evidence to back his/her claims.
Bar. Adata Bio-Briggs stated that if the spouse condones it and decides not to do anything against it, then ‘it is finished, no action can be maintained’.
