The law has begun to take its course in the case of Bolanle Raheem as magistrate’s court sitting in Yaba, Lagos remanded the killer cop, Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi in prison.
The judgement was given yesterday, December 30, after Lagos state attorney-general, Moyosore Onigbanjo, filed one count of murder against the officer.
The attorney had sought a remand order for the defendant in line with section 246 of the Administration Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.
Adeola Olatunbosun, the chief magistrate, remanded Vandi at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre after granting the plead of the prosecutor.
“That you ASP DRAMBI VANDI (M) on the 25th day of December 2022 at Ajah Round About along Lekki-Epe Express Way, Lagos within the Lagos State Magisterial District unlawfully killed one OMOBOLANLE RAHEEM (F) by shooting the deceased in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law Ch. C17 Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” the charge read.
Vandi, an officer attached to the Ajiweh unit in Lagos, had shot heavily pregnant 41-year-old Bolanle to death on Christmas day, December 25, leading to outrage on social media.
He was suspended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, as Nigerians and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) demand justice.
