Douglas County, Georgia – Regis Harris, a 17-year-old senior at Chapel Hill High, has been offered admission by more than 40 colleges and universities across the country.
Harris also received more than $1.6 million in scholarships from some of the most prestigious institutions in the country, including the University of Georgia and the University of Southern California.
The teenager was born with a heart condition and had open-heart surgery at just two days old. He is also a straight-A student, a member of the school band, varsity track team, chess club, and the National Honor Society.

I’m so blessed to have this opportunity
Harris is excited about the opportunities presented to him and feels blessed. Despite the rigorous academic program, Harris also balanced his social life, maintaining his passion for music by singing in the church choir, and giving back to the community by volunteering his time.
“I’m so blessed to have this opportunity,” Harris said. “There were several schools at the top of my list.”
Harris’s parents, Kia and Regis Harris Sr., expressed their pride in their son’s achievements. Kia Harris explained how their son’s journey to this point has been challenging, but Regis had always maintained his determination and perseverance.
Regis Harris Sr. said that his son’s story is a testament to the power of faith and hard work. He added, “I hope his story can inspire others who may be facing challenges to keep pushing forward.”
The Harris family’s story has touched the hearts of many in the community, and Harris’s achievements have inspired others, particularly those facing obstacles in their lives.
He plans to pursue a degree in engineering, and with so many excellent options, he is confident that he will be able to find the right fit for his academic and personal goals.

Black lady becomes first to receive PhD
Meanwhile, a remarkable 27-year-old American woman named Charlyne Smith has made history at the University of Florida by becoming the school’s first-ever black graduate with a PhD in nuclear engineering.
She is an inspiration to all women of colour that they are not far from their achievements, so they should keep pushing no matter what happens.
According to Charlyne Smith, who is currently a Senior Nuclear Energy Analyst on the Breakthrough Institute’s Nuclear Energy Innovation team, her accomplishment would open doors for blacks.
