1. Nigeria’s most decorated policeman, Abba Kyari declared wanted by FBI over links with international fraudster, Hushpuppi

In August 2021, the United States authorities, had explained that Nigeria’s top police office, Abba Kyari, allegedly worked with international fraudster, Ramon Abass, also known as Hushpuppi, to illegally punish hushpuppy’s associate with whom he defrauded a Qatari to the tune of $1.1 million.

Kyari denied any wrongdoing. Although he was suspended from the force, however, the Federal government, 6 months after the investigation carried out by the Inspector General of Police team, refused to release him to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who indicted him in 301 classified documents.

Kyari was a very well-decorated Deputy Commissioner in the Nigeria Law enforcement Drive and in his community. A street was named after him in his hometown.

His indictment sparked a wide range of opinions especially from the civil society calling for his release to face the FBI. It also came at the time when the dust raised by ENDSARS protesters was yet to settle.

2. The Arrest of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu

Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, and the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnmadi Kanu were arrested in Cotonou and Kenya respectively in July.

Kanu was apprehended on July 4 while Igboho was arrested by Benin police on July 20.

Ighoho’s arrest came twenty days after his Ibadan home was raided by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) as he was about to flee to Germany along with his wife. He was de-boarded from the Germany-bound plane and till date remains in the custody of Benin police.

Kanu was said to have been lured from his hideout by a female spy working with DSS to Kenya where he was arrested and returned to Nigeria for trial.

With the duo in custody, it has left Nigeria’s Ipob separatists and Odudua republic supporters in disarray.

3. Fani Kayode defects to APC amidst EFCC case

On September 16, former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, a decision which the public tagged a move to get soft landing in his current EFCC case.

Mr. Fani Kayode said that he was led by the Spirit of God in his decision and that he joined the APC to help unite the country, adding that he was against anything that would cause the disintegration of Nigeria.

4. £4.2m Ibori loot was returned to Delta State

Ahmed Idris, accountant-general of the federation, said the £4.2 million loot recovered from James Ibori, former Delta governor, and his associates had been returned to the state government.

Meanwhile, there were controversies over N3b missing looted funds by the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami. 

Although Malami denied spending N3 billion from the amount recovered from looters, the committee set up to investigate had accused him of taking N3 billion from recovered loot, the news trailed in the media for several weeks.

But the justice minister said the amount was appropriated for by the national assembly and duly released as fees for advocates, by the ministry of finance.

5. DAVIDO gifts N250 donation to orphanages

The award-winning singer, Davido had received N200m from fans, friends and families as a birthday gift. However, he added N50 and announced the donation of N250 to orphanage homes across the country to the disbelief of many.

The musician had said he wanted money to clear his Rolls Royce from the port ahead of his 29th birthday in November. 

Many fans tagged him hero of 2021.
