BIGGEST ENTERTAINMENT STORIES OF 2021

The year 2021 gave rise to some big hit stories in Nigeria’s entertainment industry which many still tag as unbelievable. From Psquare reunion to BBNaija winner cooking strategy and Miss Nigeria Hijab winner who risked being arrested by Islamic police for participating in the beauty pageant.  

1.   P-Square begs fans, reunite after 5 years split up

Peter Okoye with a new stage name, Mr. P on September 25, 2017 sent a termination letter to their lawyer Festus Keyamo (SAN), demanding an end of the agreement between PSquare.

Two years after their breakup, Mr. P in one of his singles titled, Too Late, made some revelations about his brothers, Jude Okoye (their former manager) and Paul Okoye for not accepting his wife, Lola Omotayo-Okoye, a Yoruba lady.

On December 25, 2021, the music duo Peter and Paul had a reunion concert where they went on their knees and asked their fans to forgive them for going their separate ways five years ago.

The music duo pleaded with their fans at the PSquare Reactivated concert at the Eko Convention Centre, on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, they got back together a few weeks ago to celebrate their 40th birthday together.

Some questions still remain, are they fully back? If they are fully back, can the brand “PSquare” still fit or would it just be old glory?

2.   2021 BBNaija winner, WhiteMoney and cooking strategy

We cannot talk about 2021 entertainment stories without a mention of a man whose cooking strategy many believed got him the Big Brother Naija 2021 crown.

White Money, known by fans as the chef of Big Brother Naija season 6, Shine Ya Eye edition successfully won the hearts of some housemates and millions of viewers with his meals which left viewers asking the question, Is White Money’s cooking a strategy to stay longer in the house?

White Money who took up the role of cooking in the house prepared many delicacies for the housemates including, fried rice and chicken, okro soup and semo.

It wasn’t surprising when on October 2, he was announced winner of the BB naija with N90 million.

In previous editions, there have been positive Public Relations strategically placed for winners during their stay in the house to enable them to win by public acceptance. Other times, it was something unique about their personalities.

3.   18-year-old Hijabi pageant winner of 2021 Miss Nigeria, Came Under Fire by Muslim cleric

Few days after Kano born Hijabi Shatu Garko was crowned winner of the beauty pageant, Miss Nigeria, as many celebrate her for being the first Hijabi pageant winner in the world, Islamic police, Hisbah queried her participation in relations to Islamic practice.

According to a report which emanated after she was crowned winner on 17th of December, the Islamic police frowned  over her emergence, threatening to arrest her..

Her parents were said to have been invited and interrogated for allowing her daughter to participate in the event, stating it is haram.

Although the founder of Folio Media Group, the organiser of Miss Nigeria 2021, Fidelis Anosike, clarified that the vision was to create national empowerment and a role model that would serve as an inspiration for the girl child, the Islamic police considered it inappropriate for the religion.

Hisbah still remains the strongest Islamic organization upholding and defending its religion in the north.
