Bamise Ayanwola Murder: Court remands BRT driver for 30 days

On Friday, a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos ordered that a 47-year-old Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, Andrew Nice Ominnikoron, be remanded in Ikoyi Custodial Centre for the alleged murder and rape of a 22-year-old girl, Oluwabamise Ayanwola

Magistrate O.A. Salawu remanded Ominnikoron in custody for 30 days pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Court made the order following an application by the Police.

Mrs Yetunde Cardoso, Officer in Charge of the Legal Department at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, filed the application based on four-count charge of conspiracy, murder, rape, and corpse misconduct.

She stated that Ominnikoron committed the crime at 8 p.m. on February 26 on a Lagos State BRT bus with code number 257 along the Ajah-Oshodi expressway.

She said: Ominnikoron, who was on duty as a driver raped Oluwabamise Ayanwola and pushed her out of the moving BRT bus.

According to her, the offence violated sections 411, 223, 260, and 165 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. (Revised).

Salawu adjourned the case until April 11 to seek advice from the DPP.
