As the country goes through a transition phase, political heavyweights Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Peter Obi are reportedly in discussions about forming a new political party.
Their aim is to create a stronger political party that can effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to our source.
The talks among these influential leaders have been ongoing, with the initial discussions between Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the last presidential election.

Obi joined later
After the first discussions went well, they decided to bring in Peter Obi the candidate for the Labour Party in the presidential election.
The discussions are still in their early stages and revolve around two main ideas. The first is a wait-and-see approach, contingent on the outcomes of election petitions currently in court.
The leaders are hopeful that if the court rules in their favor and calls for a re-election or rerun due to irregularities in the election that brought President Bola Tinubu to power, they will merge forces for a new challenge against Tinubu and the APC.
However, in the event that the tribunal rules otherwise, the leaders are reportedly considering the creation of a strong political party in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Their goal would be to secure victory and replace the ruling APC.

Anxiety builds as Presidential Election Petition Court nears judgment
In another story, the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) is drawing closer to delivering its judgment on the challenge to the February 25 presidential election.
This has caused anxiety among President Bola Tinubu’s camp and the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
The court has received the final written arguments from both parties in the petitions filed by Atiku and Obi against President Tinubu’s victory. It is now time for the court to schedule a date for the judgment.
