The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has announced its participation in the nationwide strike, aligning with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), starting from Monday midnight.
This was stated in a statement signed by the President, Emmanuel Osodeke on the 13th of November.
The statement read, “The Nigeria Labour Congress at a Joint National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC and TUC directed all affiliate Unions to commence withdrawal of services with effect from 12:00 midnight today 13th November, 2023.

“As an affiliate of NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action of NLC to protect the interest of Nigerian workers and the Leadership of the Union.
“Zonal Coordinators and Branch Chairpersons should immediately mobilize our member to participate in the action.
“A people united, cannot be defeated.”
Recall that NLC and TUC called for a nationwide strike to protest the recent attack on Joe Ajaero, the president of NLC.
Joe Ajaero was reportedly assaulted by the Imo State Police during a protest. In solidarity, the NLC has directed all its affiliates to comply with the nationwide strike, including ASUU.

Police begin investigation into assault of NLC President, Joe Ajaero
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police has begun investigations into the alleged assault of Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
This was stated in a recent statement by the Force’s PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, November 10th.
