The scheduled arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on a fresh 20-count charge, faced a setback on Thursday due to the absence of one of the defendants in the case.
Although Emefiele, who is facing legal issues, was present at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama to respond to the new charge against him, it was revealed that the second defendant, Saadat Yaro, was not available.
The Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Mohammed Abubakar, representing the Federal Government in the case, informed Justice Hamza Muazu, the presiding judge, that Mrs. Yaro was unable to attend due to illness.

Emefiele’s lawyer did not oppose
He requested a new court date, a request that Emefiele’s lawyer, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, did not oppose.
In response, Justice Muazu adjourned the proceedings to August 23.
Following the adjournment, armed operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) swiftly escorted Emefiele away from the court premises.
This development highlights the ongoing legal matters surrounding Godwin Emefiele and underscores the importance of the presence of all defendants in court proceedings.
The case is set to resume on the newly scheduled date, providing further insight into the allegations and legal implications faced by the former CBN Governor.

Court sets Emefiele’s bail at N20 Million
Meanwhile, the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, appeared in court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal gun possession.
The Federal High Court in Lagos State granted him bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety in like sum.
Emefiele is facing two counts of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.
