Tony Ejiogu, who’s running for governor in the 2023 Imo state election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), expressed deep sadness over a violent incident in Owerri.
The incident involved an attack on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.
Ajaero had come to Owerri to organize a peaceful protest rally for Imo workers, but things took a violent turn. Allegedly, some troublemakers disrupted the protest, leading to an assault on protesters and labour leaders.

How did we get here as Imolites?
In a statement from Ejiogu’s media team, he described the attack on Ajaero as a disgrace to the people of Imo state, known for their culture and love for peace.
Ejiogu emphasized that there is no justification for such violence against a fellow citizen, and Imo should be a place free from such acts.
He questioned how Imo, a state that once respected its leaders and elders, had become a place where they are disrespected and subjected to violence, all while the younger generation watches.
I appeal to the Imo State Police Command
Regarding the attack on Ajaero and the police’s involvement, Ejiogu called on the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that the culprits are held accountable.
He stressed that this crime is not just against Ajaero but also against Nigerian workers, the state, and humanity.
Ejiogu urged the people of Imo not to lose hope but to use their votes on November 11 to choose leadership that values human lives and prioritizes the state’s security.
