The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) is drawing closer to delivering its judgment on the challenge to the February 25 presidential election.

This has caused anxiety among President Bola Tinubu’s camp and the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

The court has received the final written arguments from both parties in the petitions filed by Atiku and Obi against President Tinubu’s victory. It is now time for the court to schedule a date for the judgment.

Atiku won in 21 states

In their separate petitions, Atiku and Obi questioned the validity of Tinubu’s presidency, citing reasons such as allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering, allegiance to another country, presenting a forged university certificate, perjury, and failure to secure the highest votes in the election.

Atiku’s final written address emphasized that INEC had acknowledged his victory in 21 states during the last presidential poll and urged the court to uphold the declaration.

He accused INEC of manipulating the election results and criticized the failure to electronically transmit the election results as “wilful sabotage.”

It is a destructive blackmail

Meanwhile, President Tinubu’s lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun, warned that nullifying the election could lead to chaos and anarchy.

Atiku and Obi’s teams dismissed Tinubu’s statement as “cheap, misguided, and destructive blackmail.”
