Alex Otti, born on February 18, 1965, is a distinguished Nigerian economist, banker, investor, philanthropist, and politician. 

He hails from Isiala-ngwa in Abia State, Nigeria. Otti’s illustrious career includes serving as the former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc, a prominent retail financial institution in Nigeria.

Educational Background

Otti’s academic journey is marked by excellence. He completed his secondary education at Ngwa High School, Aba, and Secondary Technical School, Okpuala Ngwa in Abia State, emerging as the top student in his set during the school certificate examinations. 

He pursued his university education at the University of Port Harcourt, graduating with a First Class honors degree in economics in 1988. Subsequently, he obtained an MBA degree from the University of Lagos in 1994. 

Otti’s commitment to continuous learning led him to attend various international executive development programs, including those at the Columbia Business School, Stanford Business School, Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania), and INSEAD in France. His academic achievements were further recognized with honorary doctorate degrees from Babcock University, University of Port Harcourt, and University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Professional Journey

Otti’s professional journey commenced in 1989 at the Nigerian International Bank, a subsidiary of Citibank New York. He then held pivotal roles at Nigerian Intercontinental Merchant Bank Ltd., Societe Bancaire Nigeria Limited, and United Bank for Africa (UBA), where he oversaw the bank’s corporate banking sector for the entire South Division. 

In May 2001, Otti joined First Bank of Nigeria, PLC, and subsequently transitioned to Diamond Bank in March 2011 as the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Diamond Bank underwent a significant transformation, solidifying its position as a key player in the Nigerian financial sector.

Political Endeavors

Beyond his remarkable contributions to the banking industry, Otti ventured into politics and contested as a gubernatorial candidate of Abia State under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). 

His political journey was marked by significant milestones, including a legal battle that ensued following the gubernatorial elections.

Legacy and Retirement

In October 2014, Otti took voluntary retirement from his role as the Group Managing Director and Bank CEO of Diamond Bank, paving the way for Uzoma Dozie to assume the position.
