The 2023 AFCON draw, which took place in Ivory Coast, revealed the Super Eagles’ opponents. Nigeria will face Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau in the group stage of the tournament.
The Ivory Coast is hosting the competition in January next year. Originally, it was scheduled for this year, but due to the World Cup being held at the end of the previous year, CAF decided to postpone it to 2023 to avoid player burnout.
During the draw event in Abidjan, notable African football legends like Mikel Obi, Taribo West, Aristide Bance, and Yaya Toure were present.

Nigeria was placed in pot two, ensuring they would be in a group with a strong African team. As a result, the three-time African champions were grouped in Group A, alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. Notably, Guinea-Bissau was also in Nigeria’s group during the previous AFCON.
In Group A, Nigeria is the second team, suggesting that the opening match of the tournament is likely to be between Nigeria and the host nation, Ivory Coast.
