Ramadan Iftar Lecture Promotes Muslim–Christian Unity in Ikeja

Residents of Ikeja gathered at the Marriage Registry Hall inside the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat as the annual Ramadan Iftar lecture officially commenced, bringing together Muslims and Christians in a message of unity, reflection, and community peace.

The Ramadan Iftar programme, which will run until Tuesday, March 17, 2026, begins daily at 6 p.m. and continues until Iftar, the time Muslims break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

This year’s theme, “Don’t Just Pray for Yourself, Pray for Humanity,” reflects a strong call for compassion, unity, and collective responsibility among residents of Ikeja.

Speaking during the lecture, Mahmoud Awood Sani, Missionary of the Ramood Ismailia Uxes of Nigeria, Ikeja branch, described Ramadan as a sacred period dedicated to forgiveness, reflection, and spiritual renewal, adding that Ramadan reminds Muslims to live according to the teachings of Almighty Allah and to show love and kindness to humanity.

Sani further emphasized the importance of patience and peaceful coexistence, particularly within the Ikeja community, while commending the efforts of the Ikeja Local Government leadership for fostering unity among residents.

The event also featured remarks from Evangelist Rotimi Olufemi Ajayi, Coordinator of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ikeja Local Government Area chapter, who highlighted the significance of both Ramadan and Lent

Ajayi described the coincidence as an opportunity for deeper spiritual reflection and stronger relationships among faith communities.

He explained that fasting, regardless of religion, is meant to inspire self-examination and a stronger connection with God.

According to the chairman, the initiative aims to strengthen relationships within the community and remind residents that Ikeja belongs to everyone.

The chairman further reassured residents of the local government’s continued support for the people of Ikeja.
