Since the Lagos State Government moved from Lagos Island in the early 1980s, Alausa, which is in Ikeja, has evolved from a peaceful neighborhood to a hive of government activity. This calculated action was taken to relieve island congestion and make room for Ikeja’s expanding population.
Alausa Secretariat: Central Governance
The Governor’s Office and other departments, such as Finance and Education, are housed in the Alausa Secretariat, which was founded in 1985. Alausa is a crucial political hub because of the close proximity of the Lagos State House of Assembly, which improves cooperation between the legislative and executive departments.
Growth of the Economy
Significant economic growth has resulted from Alausa’s development. As a result of the flood of civil servants, banks, restaurants, and retail stores were built to meet their demands. Property values have increased as a result of this economic growth, and the Ikeja City Mall, which opened in 2011, has grown to become a significant local commercial landmark.

Alausa has adopted technology in recent years in an effort to improve governance. Processes have been made more efficient and transparent through initiatives like online portals for permit applications and tax payments. Leading the charge in this digital revolution have been the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service and the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency.

Alausa serves as a center for civic engagement as well. Numerous demonstrations have taken place there, such as the 2020 #EndSARS campaign, in which people called for changes to the police force. Alausa has further solidified itself as a forum for public participation and accountability through town hall meetings and open consultations.

Alausa still has to deal with issues like traffic congestion despite its expansion. By strengthening public transportation choices like the Ikeja Bus Terminal and developing road networks, the Lagos State Government is tackling these problems.As Lagos evolves, Alausa remains crucial to governance and development. Ongoing smart city initiatives promise to further enhance its infrastructure and services, solidifying its role in the region.
