When it comes to planning hangouts in Lagos, it is not uncommon for a number of Lagosians to automatically gravitate towards the Island. The belief is that the mainland lacks good spots to have fun.
While Lagos Island may boast of many good recreational spots, mainland equally has a number of places one can hangout and on a budget.
In Ikeja, the capital city of Lagos, you’ll be amazed at the list of affordable options for outings and activities. Apart from the well-known malls in the area and its vicinity, Ikeja boasts a variety of game centers, parks, and an abundance of restaurants that offer an enjoyable experience without straining one’s budget.
IkejaBird has compiled a list of five (5) good spots an average Nigerian can hangout in Ikeja.

1. PLAYZONE:
Located on the first floor of Ikeja City Mall (ICM) is Playzone, a game house that offers a list of thrilling activities for both adults and children, from N7000. This recreational space provides a good spot for bonding, and the creation of exciting memories. The games available include basketball, bowling, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), robotics, danceboard, kiddies rides, shooting, driving games, and more. Playzone operates every day of the week, from 10 am to 10 pm.
2. SIP AND PAINT AT MARRIOTT HOTEL:
Sip and Paint is the perfect intimate outdoor activity for a group of friends. Marriott Hotel, situated on Joel Ogunnaike St, Ikeja GRA, hosts a daily sip and paint event in Ikeja. This involves having exciting conversations, and making new connections while painting and sipping drinks. All you have to do is to make a reservation and visit the Marriott Hotel.
3. SIDEWALK BAR & RESTAURANT:
This is another ideal setting for a delightful hangout, be it solo or in groups. Sidewalk is an outdoor bar & restaurant situated in Trinity Mall, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja. With an extensive selection of beverages and an affordable menu, Sidewalk caters to diverse preferences. They also host exciting activities like Karaoke on Thursday evenings to keep guests entertained. Sidewalk bar & restaurant is open all week.
4. ZEN GARDEN:
Zen Garden, situated on Isaac John Street in G.R.A, Ikeja, offers a unique and elevated Chinese dining experience. It has an impressive traditional architecture and interior design, and serves Chinese local dishes. Beyond its culinary offerings, Zen Garden also provides a suitable ambiance for intimate dates. It equally provides conference rooms and large halls for private events and functions. It’s open everyday from 11:30 am.
5. JJT PARK:
Jakande Tinubu Park (JJT), is one of the most popular public parks in Ikeja. It is located beside the House of Assembly. JJT is large, providing ample space for hangouts (like picnics), and other recreational activities. Inside JJT park, you’ll find a playground, seating areas, benches, snack spots, and designated areas for picnics. This park is renowned for its family-friendly atmosphere and tends to be particularly vibrant during weekends.
