Ronaldinho may lose houses over unpaid taxes

Former Football star Ronaldinho may have two houses in Brazil taken away because of money he owes to tax authorities. Reports say government officials have checked his properties and may seize them to cover unpaid debts.

The houses are believed to be in the western part of Rio de Janeiro and in Xangri-La, a town on Brazil’s south coast. Ronaldinho is originally from Porto Alegre, which is about 80 miles from Xangri-La.

Officials looked into seizing Ronaldinho’s real estate after they could not find any money in his bank accounts to pay what he owes. Brazil media reported this news about the taxes he has not paid.

This is not the first time money issues have caused problems for the former Barcelona and AC Milan player. In November 2018, Ronaldinho had some of his cars and art taken away over separate unpaid fines and legal troubles.

Earlier that year, he had lost his passport for a short time when government prosecutors saw he only had about five pounds in his bank account. They wanted to recover funds related to Ronaldinho illegally building on protected land.

In 2020, Ronaldinho spent almost five months detained in Paraguay after traveling with a fake passport. He and his brother were releasing a book and casino product in the country. They initially were held in prison before being allowed to stay in a hotel under house arrest instead.

As part of Ronaldinho’s case in Paraguay, his brother pleaded guilty to using false documents. In the end, the brothers paid over £150,000 in compensation and penalties so they could leave the country.

Now back in Brazil, Ronaldinho’s money and tax problems continue haunting him. Officials seem ready to take his properties to cover unpaid debts.
