Indefinite strike: FG invites NLC, TUC for emergency meeting

The Federal Government has invited the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to an emergency meeting. 

This meeting aims to avert the planned nationwide strike scheduled for October 3. 

The unions are demanding various measures, including wage awards, implementation of palliatives, tax exemptions, allowances for public sector workers, and a review of the minimum wage.

It will take place in Abuja 

The meeting is set to take place later this evening at Aso Villa, Conference Room of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

The Federal Government had initially scheduled the meeting for noon today, but they later changed it to the evening. 

This adjustment was made to give labour unions more time to contact their leaders who are not in Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to begin a nationwide strike starting from October 3, 2023.

The decision was made after the Federal Government failed to implement policies to alleviate the difficulties faced by Nigerians.

One of the main reasons for the strike is the removal of subsidy on petrol (Premium Motor Spirit).
