Former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has shared his thoughts on the recent coup in Gabon, suggesting that more coups could occur in Francophone countries of West and Central Africa.
The military takeover in Gabon occurred shortly after President Ali Bongo’s controversial re-election for a third term.
Fani-Kayode expressed his lack of surprise at the coup, stating that he had previously warned about such developments.

He referred to his recent essay titled “Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory To Our Name?” as a possible foresight into such events.
Fani-Kayode also said their would be further coups in the Francophone nations of the region due to the reasons he stated in his essay.
He questioned whether regional organizations like ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) or the African Union would respond similarly as they did in the case of Niger when a coup occurred.
Army officers in Gabon announces coup after Bongo’s third re-election
Meanwhile, the military officers in Gabon took over power in the country shortly after President Alli Bongo was re-elected for a third term in office.
Gabon who has been in power for 14 years was re-elected for the third time on Saturday with 64.27 percent of votes cast.
Following this, Gabonese military officers annulled the results of the election as they shared that they were dissolving “all the institutions of the republic,” BBC reported.
