She revealed to the Ministry for Women Affairs that during her captivity, she was coerced into marrying Adam, a Boko Haram militant. Unfortunately, she tragically lost her two children.
The 27 years old, however, insists that she’s in love with Adam and misses him.
“As for marriage, my husband is still alive and I am still in love with him. I don’t know whether he is still in Dikwa or they brought him to Maiduguri but I will love to be reunited with him if it will be possible.”
Reactions: Stockholm syndrome
Many Nigerians labeled Nkeki’s feeling as “Stockholm syndrome,” which describes a psychological bond that captives form with their captors. Here are some comments:
@EduEle5: Stockholm’s syndrome is at work. She should be sent to a specialist who can help her navigate this phase. On no account must she be allowed to goback to the man not to talk of marry him. What she is experiencing is not love at all.
@king_tersoo: It’s been a long time. There was no need separating her to score cheap political points.
@VivienVivicoko: Either BH husband is controlling her overthe phone or he treated her well in spite of.
@marshetti: What do you expect? She spent almost a decade with him. 9 years! He is a religious extremist but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care for her as a woman. Their situation as brainwashed fugitives probably stopped the man from working and providing for his children. I only blame a government that took almost ten years to rescue these girls. Is that even normal?
