A daughter is one of the most beautiful gifts this world has to give.
The International Day of the Girl Child(IDG) was established on October 11 by resolution 66/170 voted by the UN General Assembly on December 19, 2011. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to the importance of recognising girls’ rights globally, address the issues they face, and promote girls’ empowerment & the realisation of their rights. The IDG marks its 10th year anniversary today.
This year’s theme is “Our time is now—our rights, our future.” Girls’ rights and aspirations have long been suppressed. It is now time for girls to aspire, go to school, express themselves freely, and have a say in their future. Empower a girl child today!
