Chapel of Christ The Light, Lagos: God’s own Home

By Ofili Nonso

“It is a good church to attend for anyone who wants to grow in Christ,” Dr. Dele Ajayi, the Chaplain of
the church opined.

Chapel of Christ The Light. Located at Alausa Secretariat, M.K.O Gardens Rd, Agidingbi Ikeja, it is an
interdenominational church, owned and supervised by the Lagos State Government under the Ministry
of Home Affairs. There are 2 ministers of the church: Venerable Ezekiel Oluwadare, who is the presiding
Chaplain and Rev. Dr. Dele Ajayi, the Chaplain of the church. Together, appointed by Lagos , the duo
manage the church’s services and affairs.

True to its title as an Interdenominational church, it is open to anyone who is a Christian. As the
Chaplain, Dr. Dele Ajayi would say: “There are no barriers. The Church is for everybody”. The Chapel of
Christ the Light derives its practices from Christian doctrine and the bible.

For the Christian flock, Sundays and weekdays are insured. Mondays hold Bible studies, while Tuesdays
are for prayer meetings. One can go for midweek service & communion on Wednesdays. Lagos State
public service Christian fellowship (for all Christians in Lagos public service) is held on Fridays, with
records of full attendance. Finally, for those intending to marry, Saturdays bear classes for them.
A church is a prevailing body of Christ. Just like the early disciples who tended to the flock of Christ,
Chapel of Christ the Light does its own share of community social responsibility through outreaches.
Held once, in some cases, twice a year, they reach out to the less privileged and practice charity. Food,
clothes, name it; the needs of the poor are met.

As the needs of the grown-ups are met, so also are the needs of the young at heart. There is the
existence of VBS: Vocation Bible School, for people between age 3 to 18. During the long vacation for
kids and teenagers, one is sure of free food, film shows, and programs held with the intention to draw
them closer to Christ.

Known as the Lagos State church, Chapel of Christ the Light is a great church with a serene environment.
The biggest church in Alausa Secretariat, the church stays open to all Christians, irrespective of practice.
Just as the Chaplain would say; “it is a good church to attend for anyone who wants to grow in Christ.”

  1. I’ve been there once for a Thanksgiving service. The choir was wonderful, the security ensured. It is an amazing church.
