8-Year-Old Nigerian Golfer Funmilayo Oyero represents Lagos State at National Youth Games

At the National Youth Games happening in Asaba, Delta state, there’s a special young athlete to keep an eye on. Her name is Funmilayo Oyero, and she’s only 8 years old! Funmilayo is from Lagos, which is a big city in Nigeria.

Funmilayo is the youngest athlete from Lagos at these Youth Games, which started on September 23. What’s really interesting is that she’s been playing golf since she was just one year old! That’s quite impressive.

The Lagos state government thanked Funmilayo’s parents for letting their daughter represent Lagos in the games.

National Youth Games Asaba 2023

The National Youth Games started with an opening ceremony where the Sports minister, John Owan Enoh, did a traditional ceremony with kolanuts. This is a way to show friendship and positive feelings. 

He also said that these games will help bring peace and unity among people in Nigeria.

The games are still going on in Asaba, and young athletes like Funmilayo, who are under 15 years old, will be competing for medals.
