17 persons feared dead, 14 burnt beyond recognition in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident

On Friday, 17 people were killed in a crash involving a Mazda bus and a tanker on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at Ishara Bridge.

Mr. Ahmed Umar, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, confirmed the incident to reporters in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He stated that the accident occurred around 5 a.m. and that the number of people involved had yet to be determined.

He went on to say that the accident was caused by a route violation and dangerous driving, which resulted in a head-on collision and a fire outbreak.

He stated that the command was unable to determine which of the vehicles was at fault, noting that the bus was travelling from Lagos and the tanker was travelling from Ibadan.


He stated that the two vehicles involved are a Mazda bus with the licence plate ZT 28 KLD and an unknown make tanker.

The FRSC boss went on to say that only one male, one female, and one girl-child could be identified.

He noticed that the vehicles were partially obstructing the service lane.

The sector commander described the crash as avoidable.

He expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and urged them to contact FRSC Ogere for more information about the crash.
