14-year-old Nigerian female emerges winner of the first ever Igbo spelling-bee

Oluebeube Ogbonna, who is 14 years old was announced the winner of the first Igbo spelling bee competition.

She accomplished this great feat by  beating 356 other contestants in the competition which was held at Anambra state.

All participants were assessed on their knowledge of spellings, syllabication, and punctuations at the competition.

Oluebeube who is a student of Divine Rays British School, Anambra, brought great joy to her school by representing them excellently.

The competition which took place on 13th-14th May 2022 was themed “Oka Nsupe Igbo” (The Igbo master speller), and organized by City Speller Bee in partnership with Onitsha Business School.

The competition was one of a series of projects by the Onitsha business school to create a conducive atmosphere for the development of literary non-curricular activities among junior and secondary school students.

The students were happy to be competing in their own language and indeed, this competition was a good way to preserve the language and encourage others to learn it intentionally.

Brymo apologizes after anti-Igbo outburst

Meanwhile, Olawale Olofore, popular singer and songwriter better known as Brymo, has finally apologized for saying the Southeastern part of the country is not ripe enough to produce the Nigerian president.

The singer had drawn the irk of the south-easterners when he in a social media rant affirmed his support for the former governor of Lagos state APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Brymo had described the demand for the Igbo presidency as a “pipe dream”, saying the agitation for Biafra Igbos would not give them the edge to have the presidency.
